The
Cold Rolling Division (CRD) is an integral division of Hero Cycles, the
flagship company of the 15-member Hero Group of Companies. The Hero Group
is a major player in the bicycle and the two-wheeler industries in the
country. Hero Cycles is The other prime companies in the Group are: Hero Honda Motors Limited,
a joint venture with Honda Motors of Japan, commanding a market share
of around 50%, Munjal Showa, a collaboration with Showa of Japan, manufacturing
shock absorbers, Majestic Auto Limited and Hero Puch, manufacturing mopeds
and scooters. Other Group companies are engaged in manufacturing cycle
and auto parts. The combined Group turnover for the year 1999-2000 is
around Rs 3800 crores. A
Backbone of Steel
Over
the years the Company has grown with an investment of Rs 700 million and
possesses an installed capacity of 1,30,000 MT per annum. This was made
possible particularly with the installation of an additional 6-Hi Cold
Reduction Mill, based on a joint engineering and design by MECON and Hero
Cycles Ltd, along with hydrogen annealing. The
plant was commissioned primarily to cater to the Hero Group's requirements,
however the product went onto acquire the acceptance of major automotive
and white goods manufacturers, as also other market segments. Today the
company serves many industries across the country and strives to meet
customer requirements, expressed or implied, by maintaining a consistency
in quality through continuous upgradation of technology and human endeavour.
The mill has state-of-art equipment including 4-Hi reversible cold rolling-cum-skin
pass mill with rewinding line, CR Slitter, and a modern bell annealing
facility to maximize the quality of its products. Metallic
Forte The
company has several firsts to its credit, including hydraulic auto gauge
controls, computerized pass schedules, automatic slow down and a totally
enclosed, semi-continuous pickling line, apart from effective anti-pollution
and safety controls which were incorporated from the very beginning. The
company implemented SAP R/3 Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) Software
in February 2001 with the assistance of SIEMENS and MECON.
Hero
Cycles Limited, CR Division has also entered into an agreement for technical
assistance with Kawasaki Steel Corporation, Japan.
Kawasaki Steel Corporation
will help the CR Division in areas pertaining to the improvement of production
yield, elimination of defects, reduction of customer returns and enhancement
of maintenance operations against certain predetermined targets.Kawasaki
Steel holds expertise acquired through development, operation and maintenance
of its own Cold Rolling Plant in Chiba and Mizushima Works, Japan. |
